HIKIND/OU JOB FAIR – THE GIFT THAT KEEPS GIVING
Assemblyman Hikind (D-Brooklyn) was delighted to learn that his recent Job Fair has already resulted in three job placements and brought more than 100 people closer to full-time employment.

Over 600 people attended the fair on April 18 at the Young Israel of Midwood, where community members had the unique opportunity to meet with dozens of potential employers all in one location. Today, the OUJob Board reported the current results of this fair:

·       147 job seekers who attended the job fair are currently  in the interview process as a result of the connections they made at the fair.
·       At least 15 second interviews have already been conducted and many employers have expressed interest in additional interviews.
·       Three people who attended the fair have been hired.

“As I’ve said the past, if we can get even one person a job by holding these types of events, it’s more than worth it,” said Assemblyman Hikind who has now sponsored four such events. “Over the years, many of our community members have thanked us for connecting them with solid, meaningful employment via our job fairs—I can’t describe how good that makes my staff and I feel.”

Assemblyman Hikind thanked Sruli Rosner, Director of the Orthodox Union’s Job Board for making the event possible, as well as David Stern, president of Young Israel of Midwood, for the use of his synagogue for this important event. “This is tachlis,” said Hikind.

Meeting Brooklyn Tech’s Jewish Culture Club

This week I had the great pleasure of meeting several dozen students from Brooklyn Tech High School. NCSY had asked me to address the school’s Jewish Culture Club and I was delighted to speak to and share my experiences with these young men and women—some of Brooklyn’s best and brightest. They were polite, respectful and attentive.

These experiences are truly some of the most enjoyable for me as an elected official.

HIKIND/OU JOB FAIR ENORMOUSLY SUCCESSFUL
MORE THAN 600 PEOPLE ATTEND
Over 600 people attended a job fair sponsored by Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) and the Orthodox Union’s Job Board on Thursday, April 18. The event, which was held at the Young Israel of Midwood, gave community members the opportunity to meet with dozens of potential employers all in one location. Entry-level, middle-management and senior-level positions were available, and attendees were grateful for the opportunity.

“The number of people at our job fair was absolutely amazing,” said Assemblyman Hikind who has now sponsored four events. “As I’ve said the past, if we can get even one person a job by holding these types of events, it’s more than worth it. Over the years, many of our community members have thanked us for connecting them with solid, meaningful employment via our job fairs—I can’t describe how good that makes my staff and I feel.”

Assemblyman Hikind thanked Sruli Rosner, Director of the Orthodox Union’s Job Board for making the event possible. He also thanked David Stern, president of Young Israel of Midwood, for the use of his synagogue for this important event, and for allowing the event to run beyond its scheduled hours of 4 pm to 7 pm because of the great turnout.

HIKIND PRAISES NYPD IN BROOKLYN HATE CRIME BUST

Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) had high praise for the NYPD for their immediate and professional response in arresting a teenager who threatened and attacked a Jewish subway rider on Monday. Stephan Stowe, 17, was charged with harassment after telling the rider, “They should have killed all of you,” and grabbing the victim’s cell phone.

Today, Stowe was arraigned on eight charges, including grand larceny, which was charged as a hate crime, resisting arrest and harassment.
“There is no place in our city for hate—it’s as simple as that,” said the Assemblyman. “The NYPD acted quickly and efficiently in dealing with this disgusting incident. We should all be grateful for their presence and their dedication.”
