Who Is Terrorizing Yeshiva Children in Boro Park?

Parents of yeshiva children just came to my office to inform me that for more than a week, a man has been following their school bus and then waiting for children to exit so he can photograph them. He is seen frequently on 18th Avenue waiting for 6th grade boys to enter their yeshiva and both the children are their parents are frightened. The drives a van with NY license plate GFV-5406.

I just spoke with the principal of the school as well as the commander at the 66th Police precinct. We’ll get to the bottom of this.

We expect to release a video soon.

We had wonderful responses to our request from the Department of Transportation for thicker muni-meter receipts. In fact, Meir Birnhack, a community askan (activist) visited my office today after returning from a trip to Philadelphia with muni-meter receipts from that city that are also much thicker and more practical than the flimsy, problematic receipts in New York City. My sincere thanks to Meir for sharing these tickets with us. In turn, we are sharing them with the New York D.O.T.

Regarding the accident on 49th St. and 13th Ave.

A boy who was walking fell into a DEP manhole on the corner of 49th St. and 13th Ave. Thank G-d he was pulled out and seems to be okay.

It is important that everyone is aware of the work that is going on in Borough Park so such accidents can be avoided. Please warn your children to be extra careful.

We are looking into how this accident was even possible. We are a community of families and children and everyone must exercise the very highest safety measures to protect everyone here.

DRIVERS TICKETED AFTER RECEIPTS BLOW AWAY

to follow the rules and regulations.”

Are you tired of paying a muni-meter, displaying your receipt and then coming back to find a ticket because your ticket blew to the floor when you closed your door?”

Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) is proposing a simple solution to the too-thin-receipts problem: Thicker receipts.

After receiving numerous complaints from constituents about their muni-meter receipts blowing to the floor or blowing away, the Assemblyman contacted Polly Trottenberg, the newly appointed Department of Transportation Commissioner, and asked the D.O.T. to consider more substantial receipts. Thicker paper is utilized in other countries such as Israel where muni-meters abound.

“Our office has received calls from a number of constituents who complain that they have received parking summonses even after having properly purchased and displayed a muni-meter receipt on their dashboard,” said Assemblyman Hikind. “Upon inspection, they discovered that their receipts had either flipped over or had been blown to the floor. This likely occurred when they closed their car door. The problem is even worse during times of heavy wind.”

The problem, Assemblyman Hikind explains, is the flimsiness of the actual receipts, which are printed on very thin paper.

“It is a shame to penalize people who are attempting to follow the rules and regulations,” said Hikind. “The addition of muni-meters has been helpful. They’ve added numerous potential parking spaces in our community and in other neighborhoods. But there is always room for improvement and improving this situation seems easy.”

In a world short on true leaders, there is no doubt that Ariel Sharon was a leader of the people of Eretz Yisrael. There are many examples of him exhibiting courageous leadership throughout his life, particularly during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. There's no doubt he lived a life dedicated to his people. Still, there remains a chapter in his legacy that left many Jews deeply hurt and pained, for having had to depart from even a sliver of our precious land. Rock throwing in Midwood

At approximately 4 pm today, a woman from our community was driving down L between E 15 and E 16 when her car was pummeled by what she thought was snowballs. Her rear window was smashed and her 4-year-old daughter who was in the back seat was suddenly hysterical. The driver called 911 and they took her name and number.  Then, on closer inspection, she realized it wasn’t a snowball—it was a rock that had broken her window and engendered her child.

When I learned of the incident I called the 70^th Precinct to make certain this matter is being dealt with.  We will continue to monitor this situation.

HIKIND PRAISES FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR QUICK RESPONSE
AND LIVES SAVED IN MIDWOOD, BROOKLYN BLAZE

Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) had the highest praise for members of the New York City Fire Department and other first responders who were on the scene this morning as a huge fire raged at 1171 Ocean Parkway in the Midwood section of Brooklyn.

The fire broke out several minutes before 9 a.m. and the fire department responded immediately.

“Our fire fighters are the very best there are,” said the Assemblyman. “They risk their lives to save the lives of others and they did so once again this morning. This was a terrifying fire on a dangerously cold day. Thank G-d no lives were lost. Our communities owe a large debt of gratitude to these brave individuals.”

Deputy Chief Wayne Cartwright reported that there were eight minor injuries (three fire fighters and five civilians). Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.
