HIKIND PRESSES TRI-STATE SENATORS TO OPPOSE HAGEL APPOINTMENT

“HAGEL WILL NEGOTIATE WITH HEZBOLLAH & HAMAS…WHY NOT AL-QAEDA?”

Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) is calling on U.S. Senators from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to oppose the appointment of Chuck Hagel to the position of Secretary of Defense. Comparing the former Nebraska Senator to former UK Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain for his conciliatory position on Iran and terrorists, the Assemblyman also noted the numerous anti-Semitic statements that Hagel has been documented to have made.

“Senator Hagel said Washington is fearful of a Jewish lobby; that he’s not a Senator of Israel. What kind of statements are these if not overtly anti-Semitic?” asked the Assemblyman. “Hagel wanted to shut down Haifa’s USO Center and he declares, ‘Let the Jews pay for it.’ This is not the language of diplomacy; this is the language of disdain. This is not subtle anti-Semitism; it’s overt!

“The former Senator’s posture towards Iran and terrorists is equally disturbing. He’s said he would talk to Hezbollah. He’s promoted talks with Hamas. These are terrorist outfits that boast of targeting civilians! Why not Al-qaeda, Mr. Hagel?

“I am respectfully calling on U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, U.S. Senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez of New Jersey, and U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy of Connecticut to strongly object to Hagel’s nomination to this important and influential position.”

Assemblyman Hikind is launching a major campaign in the Tri-State area encouraging concerned citizens to contact their U.S. Senators’ offices and convey their objections to Hagel’s appointment.

“Senator Hagel is unhealthy for America,” said the Assemblyman. “His appointment should be opposed by Democrats and Republicans alike.”
