HIKIND ADDRESSES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL VIGIL
AT IRANIAN MISSION
A Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Memorial) vigil will be
held this Sunday, April 7, at 12:00 noon in front of the Iranian Mission to the
United Nations on Third Avenue and E. 40th Street (622 Third Ave., Manhattan). Prominent
elected officials and civic leaders, including NYS Assemblyman Dov Hikind
(D-Brooklyn), will be addressing attendees.
Members of the Jewish community and others, led by
the Yom Hashoah Mobilization Committee, will gather to commemorate the millions
of innocent people who perished in the Holocaust.
“We need to constantly remind the public and our
elected officials of the imminent danger posed by Iran’s nuclear program and
anti-Semitic rhetoric,” said Assemblyman Hikind. “Israel is consistently demonized
by Iranian and like-minded propagandists with one intent: To destroy her.”
Hikind noted that Iran’s tactics have been painfully reminiscent of what happened before the extermination of six million Jews in Europe; that the appeasement and funding of entities which promote the hatred of others must be stopped. “It’s more than a cliché,” he said. The fact is that those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
Also scheduled to speak at the vigil are Congressman
Jerrold Nadler, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, NYS Assemblyman
David Weprin, Bill Thompson (mayoral candidate), Rabbi Joseph
Potasnik of the N.Y. Board of Rabbis, Mort Klein (President of the Zionist
Organization of America), David Ibsen (Executive Director of United
Against Nuclear Iran), Ari Kagan (NYC Council Candidate), and Rabbi Shlomo
Nisanov of Tehilat Sephardim in Queens.
